While the article credits the explosion of methamphetamines for the rise in Identity thefts, Arizona has long had a problem with thefts associated with the drug markets.  With its long border with Mexico, Arizona has become a major conduit for drug smugglers.  For years drug dealeres would travel to Arizona to make their pickups.  To help fund their purchases, many resorted to  burglary.  Now, Identity theft is becomng the method of choice.
